Though the work we do as designers and architects is exciting and
challenging, inevitably, our enthusiasm for thenew and beautiful wanes as
we become entrenched in ourrepetitive tasks. Our office decidedon travel
as a way to renew our excitement about the design process. We chose
to visit Berlin because it has more building projects than anyother city,
with the world's best architects making their imprints on its reconstruction.
Berlin also has a long and rich history of innovativemulti-family housing-
from the Bauhaus developments in the fringeof the city to the IBA
expositions closer to the center. Much of thishousing is Government
sponsored "Social Housing." We benefitted imeasurably from
experiencing firsthand the numerous building projects of Berlin.

We arrive in Berlin on Saturday afternoon, November 27th. We spend
the first day in Berlin wandering as we please, jetlagged but curious.
